It's been nearly 20 years since we lost a legend in race car->ke148 driving. A man that in 10 years of Formula One->ke662 driving took home 41 wins, stood on the podium 80 times and won three championships. And today we celebrate what would have been his 54th birthday. The man in question is none other than Mr. Ayrton Senna->ke4309.

We are not the only ones celebrating his birthday either, as the Google doodle -- the Google logo that changes every so often to reflect a key date -- is celebrating him too. You can see the doodle (above), which has a digitized image of Senna, an F1 car and is all done up in his home Country's colors: green and yellow.

It's crazy to thing that it has been 20 years since he perished in an accident at the San Marino Grand Prix. It is even crazier to wonder if he would still be racing today at 54 years old.

Ayrton Senna->ke4309

Senna's racing career started at the tender age of 13, when he began racing go-carts. Senna went on to win the South American Kart Championship in 1977 and was a contender in the Karting World Championship the next five years.

In 1984, following successful runs in Formula Three and other single-seat racing associations, Ayrton made the leap to Formula One with Toleman Group Motorsport. In 1985, Senna moved to Lotus, where he remained through the 1987 season. In 1985 and 1986, Senna finished third in points, and he finished fourth in 1987. In 1988, he moved onto McLaren, and he stayed with the team through the 1993 season.

With McLaren, Senna won three driver's championships, came in second in 1989 and 1993, and came in fourth in 1992. Following the 1993 season, he made the fateful move to Williams-Renault, where he was retired in his first two races, then was killed as a result of an accident in the third race.
