Gran Turismo 5 Preview

Posted on by 1

Although the Gran Turismo 5 is going to be released on 26th of March, Topspeed team got its hands on the fifth iteration of the series. But don’t worry, you’re not the last person who found out that Gran Turismo 5 was launched, this is the Japanese version of the game.

The Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is available in disc format for $49.90 or as a downloadable game on the Playstation Online Store. Enough with the talking, let’s move on with other important informations about the game you love best.

When the disc is inserted the starting screen shows that several improvements were made since the 4th version of the game was released, and the game seems to be built around the online experience. When the Playstation is connected to the internet the main screen of the GT 5 reveals various modes like race events, your garage, the dealer but also the map of the world with the major cities highlighted along with weather conditions. Also available when connected to the internet is the Gran Turismo TV, a dedicated video player designed to highlight car-culture videos. The game can also be played while you’re offline and the difference is that some extras like the calendar or weather information are not available.

The game can be enjoyed in two ways: in arcade mode, where you can choose any race track, or in events mode. The second mode takes you back to the older games in the Gran Turismo series since your are given a set amount of cash at your disposal, more exactly 3,500,000 credits, which you can use them to buy for example a Honda Integra Type-R for 2,700,000 credits. After you did this you head out to event mode races. When you enter the races you find out that you don’t need to earn licenses like in the previous versions of the series, this annoying feature was finally pulled out. However there is a thing which makes the difference, that you have to own a car that meets the entry requirements for every race.

As you expected, at the beginning your car outmatches the other cars on the track and it is easy to pass through the first races. Although everyone knows that the game features excellent car physics, we can’t say the same thing about the prologue due to the fact that the cars feel weighty and solid. But do not be influenced about this, when you start the Gran Turismo 5 you will definetely not be interested about these small facts...since the game is so great you will definetely enjoy every moment of it.
