Infiniti trademarks JX name

In just a few days Infiniti will unveil two new special editions at the Pebble Beach Concours. However, this is not the only surprise coming from the Japanese luxury maker. According to Car And Driver, the company has filed for trademarks for cars named JX20, JX25, JX25h, and JX30.

While we have no idea what this new model will be, we are sure that the number indicates engine displacements: 25 might indicate a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine or a 2.5-liter VQ-based V-6, while "h" clearly indicates a hybrid model. The big question comes for the 20 and 30 as Nissan has no 2.0 liter or 3.0 liter engine in its line-up and it’s been years since the company developed a 3.0 liter V6 engine.

Going even further with the speculation, we presume we are talking about a crossover/ SUV model (taking under consideration that all of Infiniti’s SUVs have an X in their nomenclature). So, are we talking about an Infiniti version for the recently launched Nissan Juke ? We don’t know for sure, but we do know one thing; this will definitely be another competitor for the German models.

On their latest sale, they did not reach their quota, so I think this idea will not work. They will just burn money on creating their special editions. They must have first a big production before putting up this one.

Nobody is buying the EX so what makes you think people will buy this thing?

I’ll be looking forward to seeing how Nissan/Infiniti can engineer even more rear legroom out of their next SUV. Perhaps reduce the current 3" down to 1 or 2"? I’m starting to think their engineers must have all come from the airline industry and had worked on coach class seating prior to moving to the automotive world.

Whata wise move, Jaguar also has this XF name on one of its car.

My best guess tells me that this picture is not linked to the "JX" moniker. Infiniti has the EX, FX and QX all of which are some kind of SUV. So the question becomes where does Infiniti want to stick another SUV in the line up? My guess is that the JX would be smaller than the EX, perhaps a crossover based on a new platform. The reason why I say that is because the 20, 25 and 30 would mean 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 liter engines. All of which Infiniti no longer uses. The 2.0 and 2.5 sound like 4 bangers too. I think this would be a horrible idea if they were not hybrids. Maybe that is what they’re up to; a small hybrid. As for the picture, I’m guessing something based off of the Essence concept, which is amazing.

The X designation refers to all wheel drive for an Infiniti not a crossover as in G37X, M37X, M56X and so on, infiniti does have crossover vehicles and SUV’s with X designations but is meant for All Wheel Drive.
