We have just received the 2009 Infiniti G37 in our Top Speed test fleet and we are impressed. The car is beautiful on the inside and out, the handling is amazing and the exhaust note is nicer than the VQ35 powered Nissans, especially when you get higher up in the rev band. Our Athens Blue coupe is powered by a 3.7 Liter V6 with VVEL variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust camshafts to make an astounding 330 HP and 270 lb-ft of torque and shifted through a 7 speed automatic transmission, this is enough power and speed for you to establish a relationship with your local law enforcement officers.

To be honest the G37 looks a little odd, it has the same dual arc profile that made everyone run out and buy a G35, but the added bulges at the front and rear corners of the body made it a little difficult to photograph. It is odd because we are usually fans of wide boxed fenders, but this car will take some getting used to. That doesn’t realy matter because once you drive it, you’ll forget about the 19 inch sport wheels or the chrome front grill, even the HIDs up front and LEDs out back won’t mean a thing when you are sitting in the Stone leather seats, gripping the leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel and changing the satellite radio station on the Bose stereo. This is where the fun is.

Like we said before, the G37 has plenty of go, it handles amazingly, with the added fun of rear wheel drive, and even though it may take a minute for our eyes to adjust, most people’s already have. Aside from the added displacement the latest iteration of the G car can do something that its predecessor couldn’t. Both rings on the taillight illuminate under braking, a signature move of Nissan’s Skyline, that’s what this luxury sedan based sports coupe is known as in the land of the rising sun.
