We've been going over rumors about the next Jaguar XJ for over a year now. We know Jag has been developing the car, but we assumed the global economic slowdown would have put the brakes on this large luxury sedan. Now we are happy to report we're wrong.

Jaguar' Managing Director Mike O'Driscoll said that the company will introduce a new sedan later this year. As reported earlier, the next XJ is expected to take its styling cues from the new design lines from the XF and XK, rather than look to the past like the current car. Jaguar will style the car as coupe-like sedan (think four-door XK), something Jag perfected well before the Mercedes CLS.

The international engine line up will include the new 3.0-liter diesel engine and possibly a diesel V8. Here in the U.S., we'll likely never see the oil burners. Instead we should see the newly enlarged 5.0-liter V8 gas engine in regular and supercharged forms.
