Jimmie Johnson, who has chances for his first NASCAR title this year, will team with X-Game champion Travis Pastrana to form Team USA at the 2006 Race of Champions event in Paris next month.
Johnson also took part in the event in 2004 alongside Casey Mears, while Pastrana, winner of the first ever X-Games rally event, teammed with Jeff Gordon on last year’s edition of Team USA and took part in the 2003 event.
"It’s a great event that pits the top drivers in motorsports from around the world from every discipline," said Johnson. "Typically you don’t get the chance to race against the top competitors from Formula 1, off-road, rally and Champ Car, but this event allows you to do it with its creative format. I’m looking forward to getting out there and representing the United States and NASCAR."
Among the other competitors confirmed for the event are Formula One drivers Jenson Button for England, David Coulthard for Scotland and Heikki Kovalainen for Finland; three-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais will team with three time World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb on Team France; world rally champions Marcus Gronholm and Colin McRae; Dakar Rally champion Stephane Peterhansel; WTCC champion Andy Priaulx and seven time Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen.
