This day was bound to come, no matter how much we all feared it. That's what happens to cars like the Ferrari LaFerrari->ke4626. You appreciate and love it, but you also understand that seeing one crash will make your stomach turn. It's an inevitability that we all can't escape and recently, our fears were finally realized when a Ferrari LaFerrari crashed into a Volkswagen Golf->ke164 in Maranello. The horrible photos were taken by GFWilliams Photographer and shows significant damage to both models.

Then again, it does look like it was the LaFerrari that bore the brunt of the crash. The entire front section of the supercar->ke177 has been mangled. The bonnet, front bumper, and a number of aero components up front all look to have seen better days. It's a painful sight to see.

Fortunately, the damage doesn't appear to be fatal to the pockets, but a major repair is in order. With the damage concentrated on the front end, it looks like this LaFerrari will live to see another day. The car gods were kind today...

Why It Matters

Notwithstanding the fact that the Ferrari LaFerrari costs well over $1 million, this particular model is also limited to just 499 units. So yeah, you can understand why we felt squeamish seeing one involved in a crash. It's actually an unnerving feeling. You can't help but stare at it, jaws agape, unable to speak or even say anything remotely coherent. That's what it feels like looking at these photos.

Ferrari LaFerrari

It's been over a year since Ferrari unveiled the LaFerrari, the successor to the Enzo->ke389 supercar, at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. In that time, the supercar has become no less awesome while still featuring all the incredible and aggressive characteristics that made it such a head-turner.

The LaFerrari comes with a hybrid system -- a first in Ferrari’s history -- and this HY-KERS system combines a 6,262 cc (6.3-liter), V-12 engine with two electric motors. One of these motors powers the driven wheels and the second drives the ancillaries.

This system delivers a total of 963 horsepower – 800 delivered by the V-12 engine and 163 by the electric motors – which allows the car to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds and up to a top speed of more than 217 mph.
