Lamborghini Gallardo - Wrecked by Dubai speed bumper

lamborghini gallardo - wrecked by dubai speed bumper

The government of Dubai thought it would be a good idea to put a speed bump on a street where locals tended to speed. Problem is they didn’t tell anybody. This Gallardo hit it at over 60 MPH.

There’s actually a video of the accident. The back end of the Gallardo goes about 5 feet off the ground.

I love how you guys make a giant deel of the laws requiring the posting of the new speed bump in some town you’ve never been. Its like you guys are giving this dueschbag sympathy.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE LAW? HE CLEARLY DOESN’T!

If he had followed the speed limit in the first place we wouldn’t be having this discussion. ANYONE who can afford a Lamborghini can afford the damage to it. If they couldn’t, they wouldn’t drive it like that, and if they can’t afford it and they still drive it like that... ...then they just plain aren’t smart enough to deserve space on god’s green earth.

The Government have to inform the road users by law that speed bumps exist regardless of what the speed limit is or not. They may take measures to enforce the limit however if they put an obstacle in the road which could endanger other users they have to inform the road users. It is not written into the code or law that a speed bump "defines" the speed on the road, it mearly acts as a deterrant. Basically if the road has changed in anyway from the highway code the user of the road has to be informed by a clear written or visual representation regardless of speed limits

People are pretty heated about whose fault the accident is. I think it is pretty obvious that when you crash a car on a speed bump as large and obvious as this one, it is your own fault. When I lived in Senegal there was no regulation over speedbumps, so owners of business would install them outside thier establishments in order to make it safer for thier customers pulling out of parking lots and to draw more business. This became pretty dangerous on major highways, especually when the bumps were poorly made. I destroyed my suspension on one of these bumps but didnt complain, as it was obviously my fault. As for the conversation of speeding tickets in Dubai, i am pretty sure they use income percentage for things like speeding tickts, so the driver of a Lambo wold pay at least 50 times as much as an averave joe with a mediocre income. Smart system. Dubai has a very well established government, with very effective laws. This speed bump this was probobly a mistake, i imagine that they intended to post a sign, and someone took a lunchbreak instead. hope this clears things up.

Brad - read what I wrote.

I didn’t say it’s supposed to stunt speeding, I said that there happens to be a benefit that drivers can identify that they are out of their lane, by the noise and the vibrations from the rumble strips. So, try reading what I wrote before you jump to conclusions. However, I did word my statement incorrectly - their purpose IS to wake sleepy drivers, as you have pointed out - my error was that I phrased my sentence as though lane position was their main purpose (well, it is, but not for speeders).

And Stewart - in my area I have not seen 25mph speedbumps - so thanks for pointing that out. Either way, I personally think that it’s a bad idea to put a speedbump on a major roadway that is known for speeding - active traffic enforcement is always greatest (after drivers slow down for the speedbump, what’s to say they can’t go back on to speeding?). In this case I think the government of Dubai has made a slip-up. The drivers should have insurance though, so I’m not sure if I personally feel that the government should pick up the bill or not.

Tom, I just wanted to say this, they do have different sized speed bumps, the slower you’re supposed to go, the bigger the bump, I’ve seen 25 mph bumps.

Tom’s wrong.

Rumblestrips have NOTHING to do with speeding. AT ALL. They are to wake up motorists (especially long haul truck drivers) who fall asleep at the wheel, hopefully before they end up completely off the road.

So throw that erroneous analogy right out the window.

So, what I’m gathering from this thread that is chalk full of facts, is this:

Dubai citizens are rich out of their minds, but the government doesn’t care about their well-being if they were to be killed due to their actions. Yet, they care enough about speeding to do something drastic. They care more about speeding than the safety and well being of the rich citizens who pay their taxes?

I like the relation brought up by " yfart" - it’s like putting a speedbump up on a US highway - EVERYBODY speeds on the US interstates, but the government doesn’t put up random speedbumps. They install rumblestrips to help drivers keep mindful of their direction and position in lanes, this way the inevitable speeding is safer. Still, they should have placed traffic officers in the road to hand out huge fines, making the road safer, slower, and giving extra funding to the department.

Its one thing to put in a speed bump and warn/tell people about it to make them slow down. They do there around here by schools and nieborhoods.. I think its a great idea. But when you put it in the middle of what seems to be a fast moving street to begin with and not tell anyone about it, thats negligence. If they gave no warning that the speed bump was intalled, personally, I would expect them to pay for any damage done to my car and would take legal action to try and make sure they did so. They does even touch the point that they are causing what could be deadly accidents with it.

In regards to "John Walkers" comment I would agree except they didn’t put up any warning or tell anyone. Him speeding wouldnt have hurt anyone, assuming he didn’t loose control which we will do for this, had the speed bump no been there. Now he has thousands of dollars in damage and from that bump he could have very well ran over someone since the bump sent him airborn.

"if you had a gun and were using it in an unsafe manner and shot yourself you’d probably blame the store that sold it to you. IT’S CALLED TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR YOUR ACTIONS! Not enough people do that today."

Wait... who sold the owner of the Lamborghini the speed bump??

Regardless of the consistent speeding the locals do, the government should not implement a means to correct this that is extremely hazardous - that Lamborghini very well could have hit pedestrians, a kid on a bike, or another car. See, over here in New York, if there’s a problem with speeding, we hide cops on the road to pull over just about everybody. Tickets are issued, and the police have a couple grand added to their budget. Now, that is a safe, productive and efficient means to correcting speeding on a road. Not putting a speedbump on a road without telling anybody - those cars lost control due to something the government installed without proper warning. Regardless of their speeding, it was the speedbump that caused the problems. Have you ever gone over a speed bump traveling more than 5-10mph? It . If the speed limit was any more than 10mph, then simply going the speed limit can cause an accident. Moral of the story - the government of Dubai was ignorant in this case.

Must, by law, post signs? What law, you know the laws of Dubai? Im impressed.

From reading these comments, it’s easy to tell who has no sence of personal responsibility. The gov’t posted the speed limit. Jackasses don’t pay attention to speed limit. Gov’t puts in a speedbump to enforce limit. Jackass wrecks car. If said jackass was paying attention to the speed limit he wouldn’t trash his car. All these "The gov’t should pay for it" people make me sick, if you had a gun and were using it in an unsafe manner and shot yourself you’d probably blame the store that sold it to you. IT’S CALLED TAKE RESPONSIBILTY FOR YOUR ACTIONS! Not enough people do that today.

You people are idiots. If there are newly made speedbumps there must, by law, be signs informing drivers - if there isn’t, the result is damaged cars and potentially serious accidents. Fools.

The guy was speeding and being an asshole in a place that was clearly warning him of the dangers of his actions. He deserves the cost of repairing his overpriced car.
