The government of Dubai thought it would be a good idea to put a speed bump on a street where locals tended to speed. Problem is they didn’t tell anybody. This Gallardo hit it at over 60 MPH. There’s actually a video of the accident. The back end of the Gallardo goes about 5 feet off the ground. 112 comments: Lamborghini Gallardo - Wrecked by Dubai speed bumper pussyfart (6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 Speed doesn’t kill on "interstates" - it’s a much bigger problem in towns/cities where people pull onto a street assuming traffic at x mph/kph, and get a car going x+15 mph/kph. Also, driving while talking on a cell phone increases accident risk by 4-7 times over. My lab does research on it. But I agree - launching speeding cars 6 feet into the air is likely to cause more accidents. I didn’t know they put speed bumps on long highways. A rumble strip might suffice — make it loud and headache-y in there. Alvin (6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 theyre trying the speedbumps here in Scotland as a result those of us with short----es are driving the middle of the road to avoid them, I thought they were supposed to be a safety measure???? I get some idiot in a Toyota Impreza (An overrated car I overtook one in My Rover 820Si) driving middle lane when im coming into my Drive and Blammo!!!! For gods sake Guys instead of lowering your suspension (which wont make diddly squat to your performance unless your on a race track) Maybe grab some self-esteem.. get cream for your Acne and spend the money on getting a life (or in my case having an ex-model as my wife whose 12 years my Juniour.. 4 years later shes still there!!!!!!)
(6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 traffic engineers are rarely thought of as problem solvers....problem expanders perhaps. and then you may want to consider the capabilities of drivers from a country that builds NO CARS....or anything else for that matter.
(6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 atleast his car can go over a speedbump.............. i wouldnt like to try it with mine. NM369 (6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 The lambo is designed to stay pretty neutral in less than perfect driving conditions. The part that scares me the most is that a car going a little over the limit hits, it loses control! THAT is the scary part. Poor design on the speed control, Dubai!
The FYI guy (6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 Hey, as pointed out, that section of the street does indeed have FLASHING indicators at each end of the block warning of the speed bump, PLUS, the speed bump has reflective warning stripes painted on it. A little scraped up by now I’m sure, but the paint is there. It is also well lit by both sides of the street. Not sure what else you might be looking for in the way of notice, but I’d say it was more than adequate. I’m guessing that most of the vehicles are likely regular travellers of that stretch of road, and were driving on their recolection of it, and not paying attention to any changes. Just a case of over-familiarity.
(6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 50,000 traffic fatalities annually in the U.S. Drunk driving accounts for 23,000 annually. Running traffic lights accounts for 10,000 annually. Impropper lane change or overcorrection is third. Speeding is waaaaaaaaaay down the list. Enforcer (6686) - Posted on 03.17.2006 "He’s lucky. If they catch you speeding in Saudi, they chop off your right foot." very nice you in racist, choke on a ya prick. that for the lambo, I heard their outlawing all modified vehicles.. sad since it has the best car scene in the area. (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 If he can afford the car, he can afford the repairs. I cant afford to be hit by him. Noone would survive that. We dont need drivers like that.
Swisspeas (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 Ahhhhhh that Swisspeas!!!C Watta a guy! You either LOVE HIM or HATE HIM ...but hey! Whats a laugh among friends? Right??

(6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 The line about there being "no warning" is complete BS!!! Take a look on the street in each direction. There is a huge flashing red light about a block away from the intersection on each side. Lisha (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 Speed Bumps are a waste of time; where you fix one problem, you cause another. Firetrucks and ambulences waste valuable seconds if they have to slow down and crawl over a bump. If there’s lots of them around, it’s even worse. Personally, I agree with the opinion that putting the speed bump in without warning was stupid. I think the solution was FAR more dangerous then the problem, as the speeding cars before hand were at least in control. A better fix would have been a radar trap there indefinitely, the city could make thousands dinging people who went over the limit and people would learn (with a little less damage to their personal property and less risk to passing people) that the road couldn’t be sped on anymore. Mr Bond (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 i think the city should repair the car, what if he was just running late for an important meeting or trying to get in the bar before last orders called, fix the poor sods car.
Mr Agnostic (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 speed limits are set for a reason, and from a law enforcment perspective should be observed. However putting a speed bump in a known area where people do speed is a good idea in esscence, but not telling people ahead of time is very bad .
It comes down to reaction time and speed. The faster you are going the less time you have to react to somthing in the road, and if you dont expect a speed bump where one wasn’t before problems happen.
Yes the people driving should have been driving slower
Yes the local government should have posted notice so NO ONE would get injured pedestrian or not.
And as another note a car speeding over a speed bump that loses control has a good chance of killing some one.
Kimbot (6686) - Posted on 03.16.2006 I think it’s stupid to put a speed bump with no warning. If you go over a speed bump going the speed limit, you still can lose control of the car, and that can cause more damage to cars but more importantly people. I agree with putting a speed bump there, but you have to warn people that it is there. If someone loses control someone could get killed. stupid ing terrorists
(6686) - Posted on 03.15.2006 go fregin speed in Germany u en idiot, u deserve it !
Share the road , not kill people cuz u want to flash !
Locals of the UAE are known to be Money wasters anyway, so a few Lambos or Ferraris a week is no big deal ....

"it is the pedestrians right to LIVE.
Watch where you are going, especially when speeding. That could have just as easily been a person."
Maybe the school kids shouldn’t be playing on a multi-lane highway — there’s a damn red light, it looks like, they can cross then... or maybe the highway department should maek a pedestrian bridge?
