The government of Dubai thought it would be a good idea to put a speed bump on a street where locals tended to speed. Problem is they didn’t tell anybody. This Gallardo hit it at over 60 MPH. There’s actually a video of the accident. The back end of the Gallardo goes about 5 feet off the ground. 112 comments: Lamborghini Gallardo - Wrecked by Dubai speed bumper (6682) - Posted on 12.2.2006 THE MOTOR IS HUGE.
(6682) - Posted on 07.7.2006 The driving in Dubai is among the most dangerous in the world - I live there and have seen it first hand. Dubai citizens are not all rich, though some are very wealthy. And nobody pays taxes... there are no taxes there. The gov’t gets its money from oil.
I do not think it is funny at all... roughly 1 in 4 people will be involved in a traffic accident in any given year.
Fines are small and not based on the income or type of car, so you have many, many people earning $300/month and a few earning tens of thousands.
Dubai need major improvements on its roads as too many people are being killed.

Abstract: This study tackles three aspects of the speeding problem. First, the magnitude of the problem is assessed with regards to driver compliance by comparing the 85th-percentile speed with the posted speed limit. The second aspect deals with selected speed limits at study sites, and models for estimating these percentiles are suggested. Examining the effect of automated speed enforcement by using speed radar cameras and the presence of police cars was the third aspect. A sample of a little over 69,000 spot-speed observations was gathered from 41 sites (14 freeways, 22 arterials, and 5 residential streets) during 2003 in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and in Buraidah, a small city about 300 km north of Riyadh. The analysis showed that the study sites are suffering from a tremendous speed problem. Although the problem can be blamed in part on inappropriate selection of speed limits, the speeding trends disclosed that drivers overall tend to go over the posted limit by a great amount. The proportions of motorists with 85th-percentile speeds over the speed limit are 10%, 88%, and 100% on freeways, arterials, and residential streets, respectively. A primary concern is the relatively high speeds observed on residential streets. Although the speed limit on such streets does not exceed 40 kph, the observed 85th percentiles were all more than 55 kph, which highlights the speeding issue on these neighborhood streets, where pedestrian activities are prevalent. The study found that both enforcement methods, namely, speed radar cameras and police-car presence, seem effective and led to a reduced mean speed by at least 10 kph.

(6682) - Posted on 04.10.2006 the thing is no one informed the motorists about the humps. as you see on the video, almost all vehicles are running normally as if there’s no humps on the road. it simply means there are no signs! and please, don’t speak that way as if you wont speed if you have that kind of car! come on!
