Lotus will bring new Esprit at Paris Motor Show?

Lotus has announced some very good and eyebrow-raising news today: the 2010 Paris Auto Show will mark "The dawn of a new era!" In exactly 100 days starting today the company will "unveil the future evolution of an iconic British brand."

Since the new Esprit is a car that has been a long time coming, we can only hope that the Esprit is exactly what Lotus is talking about with that tagline! And if it is then the Ferrari 458 Italia , Lamborghini Gallardo , and Audi R8 V10 better watch out!

A while ago, a Lotus insider said the next Esprit would be "the ultimate expression of the brand." We also have to remind you that there were rumors stating that the new Esprit would get the same 4.8 Liter V10 from the Lexus LF-A supercar producing 550 HP. There are also rumors saying the entry level will be powered by a 3.5 Liter V6 from the Evora that produces 300 HP. In any case, the next Esprit will sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in about 4 seconds and will be capable of a top speed of around 200 MPH.

Press release after the jump.

This attention grabbing than a Evora! Actually I was holding my money to purchase an Evora later this year!

looks more like a Lamborghini reventon but a little bit more aggressive.

lotus are planning to compete the Ferrari with this new Esprit.. pretty nasty, isn’t it? good luck to both cars it they meet head to head on track.

nice.. lovely looking car. it looks more aggressive than the new model of lamborghini.

I don’t think Toyota would give them the V10 no matter how much they offered, just as they didn’t agree to give the 2JZ-GTE from the MKIV Supra to any of the companies who offered them massive amounts of money for it. No company (except GM with the ZR1’s motor) would be stupid enough to loan their flagship engine.

Unica: i agree with you on the toyota V10, but you’ll never know if lotus offer enough money toyota might bite....

I don’t think Toyota would ever let anyone use the fabulous V10 from the LFA, and even if they did I don’t think that a high-rpm racing engine would be ideal for a Lotus Esprit; the Esprit always had engines focused on mid-range torque. I think that the 5.0 liter V8 from the IS-F would be the perfect engine for this car.
