M version of BMW X5?

A prototype spotted in Munich certainly looks like an M version of the BMW X5. From the rear, there are four exhaust outlets – a trademark of the M series BMW vehicles. The front has larger air intakes. Also, the sound of the engine suggests that a V-10 or twin turbo V–8 is under the hood. Lastly, the tires are notably wide and low profile. 
 
Though BMW has previously said that the X5 design does not lend itself to M version treatment, the prototype seen in Munich appears to be exactly that. No official word, however, from BMW about any future plans for an M version of the X5.
