Rumors about a new Alfa 4C-based sports car from Maserati->ke51 have been circulating for quite some time now, but now in an interview with AutoCar, Maserati boss Harald Wester has revealed more details on the not-yet-confirmed Porsche 911 rival. According to Wester, a 911 competitor is a key part of the company’s future plans of improving its sales number by up to 50,000 units a year by 2015.

This potential Porsche 911->ke282 competitor -- rumored to be called GranSport -- may be powered by either a twin-turbo V-6 or a twin-turbo V-8 with an output between 450 and 550 horsepower. Speculation points toward he model weighing about 1,400 kg (3,086 pounds) and it is believed to come in either rear-wheel drive and all-wheel-drive versions -- RWD for V-6 engine and AWD for the V-8 one.

Rumors are also suggesting that the engines will mate to a new dual-clutch auto gearbox developed by Ferrari. When it goes on sale, which is thought to be sometime in 2015, is will be priced at about £100,000 ($161,500 at the current exchange rates).
