AutoCar caught testing the future Maserati Spyder at the Nuburgring in Germany. Like the California, it’s based on a shortened version of the Maserati GranTurismo platform. It even gets a metal folding roof that’s similar to the new Ferrari’s.
Under the hood there will be the same 399bhp 4.2-litre V8 found under the bonnet of its larger GranTurismo sibling. And of course it will get the same six-speed ZF automatic transmission.
The Spyder’s front-end is likely to share design cues with the GranTurismo; notably its sharply tapered, aggressive headlights.
