Jeremy Mayfield, the NASCAR driver who left the Dodge racing organization of Evernham Racing and ended up with a Toyota ride that has gone nowhere, has a new car: the no. 66 Chevrolet. He will take over the Nextel Cup driving duties from Jeff Green, starting with this week-end’s race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, driving for the Haas/CNC Racing team. Mayfield will then continue with a Haas/CNC ride in 2008.
He will be joining Scott Riggs, who recently signed to drive for the team in 2008.
Mayfield’s 2007 season was unmitigated disaster: a best finish of 22nd and qualifying for a mere 13 races.
