Remember that just last month Mazda announced that the RX-8 will no longer be available on the European market due its engine not meeting the latest European emission regulations? The same will also happen on the US market, but over here the reason is purely monetary. There are just not enough sales of the Mazda RX8 to substantiate its production any longer. According to Mazda, the company only sold 128 RX-8s in April of 2010, so they have decided to pull the RX-8 from the U.S. market after the 2011 model year.

Don't worry, this doesn't mean Mazda will drop their rotary models. A company insider announced a new model is in the works and will be launched in 2013.

The current RX-8 is powered by a compact 13B twin rotor Renesis engine making 232 HP at a screaming 8,200 RPM and 155 lb-ft of torque. This allows the RX-8 to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 6.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 145 MPH.
