August 14th’s 2013 McCall Motorworks Revival is shaping up to be one of the best supercar parties in the event’s history over the past two decades.
Golden and bubbling champagne, fine foods and the staccato rumble from an occasional ignition of the Pagani Huayra , Hennessey Venom GT or Porsche 918 Spyder is surely anyone car guy’s vision of heaven. Set against a Californian sunset backdrop, and it is easy to see why supercar makers choose McCall MWR as the kickoff to this epic concours show week.
Any time you can gather hundreds of famous historical bikes, airplanes and exotic cars in one place is destined to be fun, but spread out over the Monterey Jets airport hangar with champagne flowing like jet fuel – the McCall MWR is a high-octane jump start for the automotive movers and shakers who plan annual calendars around August’s Pebble Beach Concours week.
Unlike a regular auto show, which places the true exotics behind velvet ropes, this VIP event is private and allows its fancy crowd the chance to get very close and personal with these priceless exotics. Like Salon Privè in the U.K., this is as much a party as a marketing and sales event.
Discreetly to the side of the low-key manufacturer booths, there is typically a small business center for building the car’s customer base. After all, selling a million-dollar hypercar is not like leasing a new Ford Focus. It can take months (or years) of polite contacts and follow-ups, test drives and $1,000 goody bags arriving in the mail to make these individuals write such a big check.
Among the less-wealthy but die-hard car enthusiast clan, any chance to get such a fine group of machinery together is reason enough to celebrate.

The Event Description, Date and Location:
McCall Motorworks Revival 2013 (MWR) will be held Wednesday, August 14th at 5:00 pm at the Monterey Jets Center, 300 Skypark Drive, Monterey, California 93940. Tickets are available to the general public for $325 each.
Formal attire is suggested.
The Event’s Importance to Supercar And Luxury Manufacturers:
The McCall MWR offers a first chance to build a relationship with these high-dollar and important individuals from the collector and supercar OEM worlds. Scheduled as the first stop in a week-long extravaganza that stretches all around Monterey Bay, California for the following week, McCall MWR’s prime location right at the private jets’ airport makes this party front and center for buyer attention.
The list below shows a small sample of the fine machinery that appeared in the last two years at the McCall MWR, with some of the best names in the auto industry proudly represented.
The biggest news comes from Aston Martin, which will debut the 2014 Vanquish Volante and 2014 V12 Vantage S at the McCall Motorworks Revival 2013. This comes after a successful debut of the 2013 Vanquish hardtop at last year’s MWR.
2013’s explosive Geneva showstoppers, the McLaren P1 and LaFerrari, are in route to California for the week’s festivities as we speak. The car’s schedules are extremely tight, and their presence at the McCall MWR is not yet confirmed, but Ferrari is a long-time attendee with a large booth for this year to house the F12 and 458 Spyder supercars, plus room for at least four other cars.
Lamborghini is bringing its latest mad fleet, including the Urus super-crossover concept, the Egoista and Sesto Elemento. Aventadors will be plentiful and the Gallardo-replacing Cabrera may even get a very private viewing for high-powered buyers.
These hush-hush viewings are an easy way to make the VIP clientele feel like they are getting the special treatment (that they so deserve…).
Bentley is coming with the Mulsanne flagship and GT family, plus the new Flying Spur – with back seats open for trials by the glitterati. Revealed in secret to select clientele last year, the Mulsanne Convertible may see daylight on this trip.
The Bentley Falcon SUV’s restyle is long finalized and on the road the production, so may join the festivities privately ahead of its expected Frankfurt debut.
Some of the smaller players will be in Pebble Beach this week, but may not be able to fit the McCall MWR Revival into the itinerary. These include Oregon-based SSC, who makes the ferocious Ultimate Aero and the upcoming Tuatara .
Another unknown is W Motors , who are busy designing the interior of the Lykan Hypersport in Dubai this summer. Considering the Lykan Hypersport will not be sold in the U.S. or Europe (for crash testing / federalization reasons), they may choose to skip this festival.

The Best Driving Roads In The Event Area:
There are a huge number of really twisty highways and mountainous roads in the Pacific Coast region about 2 hours south of San Francisco.
Best For Maximum California Glamor And Photos:
17 Mile Road is a peaceful ribbon of tarmac winding through the exclusive communities and multiple $2,000-a-round (and up) Pebble Beach Golf Courses. Spyglass Hill is a beautiful course, but try to go as a guest of a local or member for the best experience in the members-only club rooms.
Best For Rally-Style Unpaved Mountain Road Thrills:
Among drivers with a lust for gravel roads and mountain rallying, Old Coast Road is a single-lane gravel pass that was once the only way to the cliffs at Big Sur. Stretching ten miles and lined with giant redwood trees and glimpses of bright blue ocean, Old Coast Road is a divine way to enjoy an SUV on its home turf. The Local Motors Rally Fighter would be a fun test drive for Old Coast Road.
Best For Life-Changing Supercar Engine Symphonies:
Visiting Big Sur National Park is a must, and is just a short cruise on California’s Highway One from Carmel. Big Sur is best in a loud car, to hear the exhaust bouncing off the rocky mountain walls.
Highway One (the Pacific Coast Highway) is where a wild man split his Ferrari Enzo in half a few years ago, then ran for the hills to hide from police – so drive cautiously.
Sea salt makes the road slick, and frequent construction means pre-dawn sunrise blasts are the best way to have to road to yourself.
A number of other scenic drives are listed on the Monterey Tourism board web site, so get out there and stretch that V-12!
