The 2012 racing season was very successful for McLaren MP4 12C, as it achieved 19 victories and a further 19 podium finishes. However, none of these results were obtained in North American competition because in 2012 the car was not eligible to race here.

Things have changed for the 2013 racing season, as the car has been approved to race the Pirelli World Challenge (PWC). This is possible thanks to the updates made to the car's hood and ducting. These updates allow the car to run competitively in higher temperatures than those experienced during 2012.

Thanks to these improvements the 12C GT3 won't have any problems racing in the PWC, which includes the leading purpose-built tracks and street circuits across the USA and Canada. Also, in the PWC each race is a 50 minute sprint, which is the reason why the car needed to be able to run in higher temperatures.
