Remember the Mclaren MP4-12C Can-Am that was premiered at the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance->ke2839? If not, here's what it is: Engineers and designers at Mclaren->ke284 had indulged in some experimenting on how to make the MP4-12C->ke3514 an even more exciting track car whilst not being too scary to drive. That experiment turned out to be the orange car you see above. It was given the name Can-Am to pay tribute to Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme who successfully raced a series of McLaren models in the Can-Am series. It was a one-off design study that Mclaren wanted to show the people at the Concours d'Elegance so that it could get the public approval of producing it. Apparently, McLaren got public approval…

After being successful at stirring the public into approval, Mclaren announced the production of the special edition MP4-12C at a private event held before the 2012 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. For those who want to get their hands on one of these beauties, it's going to be a bit of a challenge. McLaren's racing department, Mclaren GT, has clearly stated that it’s going to build only 30 examples of the car, with options for bespoke additions.

Priced at roughly $600,000, it's significantly pricier than the standard car. Being a special edition that not only pays tribute to one of Mclaren's milestones but also an opportunity for 30 normal people to experience true racing in cars that were designed for them, it's a fun toy, provided you have more than half million dollars lying somewhere.
