Melkus announced that their new two-seater mid-engined sports coupe - the RS2000 - will go into production next year. It will be limited to only 25 units each priced at 60,000 euro.
Based on the RS1000, the RS200 will keep the gull-wing doors, but it will be totally redesigned. It will be made of range of weight-saving materials including aluminum, glass-reinforced plastic and carbon components. In this way the RS2000 will weight less than 1000 kg.
Under the bonnet there will be a four-cylinder turbo engine with an output of 250 hp. The 2009 RS2000 will make the 0 to 60 mph sprint in 5 seconds and will hit a top speed of 250 km/h.
