Yesterday we reported that by 2014 Mercedes plans to unveil 20 new models. Today we will focus on the replacement for the current A-Class. It will be a small-car competing with models like the Volkswagen Golf->ke164, Audi A3->ke1086, and BMW 1-Series->ke313 and will be made aimed directly at the younger clientele. The next generation A-Class will be offered in both three and five door versions and will go on sale in 2012.

The car's design language will be inspired by the F800 Concept unveiled at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. From this concept, the next A-Class will borrow the prominent grille, neat LED headlights, bold creases in its flanks, and pert tail. The new model will be offered with a range of super-efficient petrol and diesel engines with stop-start.

Taking under consideration an older statement made by Dr Joachim Schmidt, it is most likely that the future model will carry the same A-Class->ke452 badge and will be built on Mercedes’ new front-wheel-drive architecture: "In the next couple of years, we will launch additional cars where we don’t currently have predecessors. Our current A-Class and B-Class will be replaced by a new platform for four totally different cars defining new segments for Mercedes."
