The Mercedes-AMG GT->ke4853 has a difficult mission brief: Beat the Porsche 911->ke282 at its own game while maintaining its raucous AMG->ke8 identity. As the smaller, friendlier, yet still wicked-fast replacement for the SLS,->ke2504 the AMG GT is the Daenerys Targaryen to the 911’s House Lannister. If you don’t get that analogy, then you should really start watching Game of Thrones, but first watch the lads at Auto Express pit a 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S against a 2015 911 Carrera GTS.

Despite their common places within the premium sports car->ke506 segment, they have very different ways of going about things. A twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 driving 503 horsepower to the rear wheels plays a howling, rear-mounted, 430-horsepower flat six powering all four wheels in a fight to see not only which is fastest, but also the best to drive and live with. Events include a quarter-mile drag race, timed hot laps, and a road test. Place your bets and click through to see which comes out on top.
