Although Mercedes has already invested time and money into the AMG version of the new E-Class sedan, it won't spread the cost over into the upcoming coupe version. The culprit: Mercedes' own lineup.

The manufacturer is experiencing some spillover from blurring the line between coupe and sedan with the CLS-Class. A Mercedes official told Autocar, "We had a good look where it (E63 AMG Coupe) would fit into the line-up and eventually came to the conclusion it would be too close to the CLS63 AMG, both in positioning and price."

So now the BMW M3 fighter in the Mercedes lineup will be the slightly larger CLS-Class. The next-generation of the CLS63 AMG should make its first appearance next year featuring a twin-turbo V8.
