New Ferraris are always big deals and when we hear news about an updated model, we get excited. That’s exactly what’s happening here with information gathered from a Ferrari->ke252 forum regarding the new California. The news comes via a Ferrari dealer conference in Maranello last November. Through a “spilling of the beans,” the public is hearing details about the new car.
For starters, the car will definitely still be called the California. It will also be powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 kicking out 560 horsepower. Sounds good so far.
The headlights are said to be a mix between the F12->ke4223 and the FF->ke3753, as they follow the edge of the bodywork, even sharing the same crease as the upper finder. The front will is more aggressive with larger side intakes at the grille. The hood will feature a single heat extractor, like on the F12, but much smaller.
The new California won’t get the awesome air bridge the F12 has, but will share a similar scallop in the door design. Out back, the taillights are said to be very similar to the current model’s. The exhaust below that, however, will look much more like the current F12’s save for the lack of the center aero sculpting. In its place, the lower black fascia will continue across the car’s rump uninterrupted.
The interior is said to be completely revised. An upgraded infotainment system will likely feature Apple’s new iOS In The Car integration. Since its introduction in 2009, the California has proven to be a popular choice among Ferrari fans. It does offer the lowest buy-in price of any Ferrari (currently $198,190) and has the added functionality of a mechanical hard-top enclosure. Its all-aluminum construction keeps weight to a minimal 3,825 pounds.
Power comes from a 4.3-liter, direct injected V-8 that kicks out 490 horsepower and 372 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission manages said power. Zero to 62 happens in a scant 3.8 seconds.
The California represents something special from the great Italian automaker and we hope the upcoming model still embodies the traditions the current supercar created.
