Tesla is slowly making some waves in the auto industry these days. After announcing that they were opening a new production plant in Palo Alto, the electric car maker has released new photos of its latest offering, the Tesla Roadster Sport.

While it’s been a long-standing belief that Tesla was producing a new car to succeed the highly-successful Roadster->ke1843, it wasn’t until recently that the carmaker released the first official – and detailed - photos of the Roadster Sport.

Tesla has long said that the new Roadster Sport is going to pack more power in a simpler and more efficient engine, but a lot of us took it with a grain of salt considering the original Roadster seemed to have covered all of the bases as far as power and efficiency were concerned.

But now, it seems that Tesla may have been on to something.

Continued after the jump

The Roadster Sport, according to figures released by the company, can rev up to a staggering 14,000 rpm while pushing through the standard 0-60mph speed test in 3.7 seconds (two-tenths of a second faster than the Roadster), while emitting no harmful gases into our precious atmosphere, courtesy, of course, of its all-electric powertrain. In addition to that, the car now comes with a unique video display feature that allow drivers to check on how much fuel it would’ve consumed if it weren’t running on electricity. Pretty novel idea, don’t you think?

Best of all, the Roadster Sport’s interior has been improved by adding more carbon fibre detailing, as well as a high-quality leather befitting a car of Tesla’s stature.

Tesla is currently taking orders for the Roadster Sport and those who are interested should be prepared to fork over around $128,500 anywhere in North America while interested Europeans could get their hands on one for a princely sum of €112,000.
