Next Impreza To Be Based off the Toyota Corolla

Posted on by 19

Akio Toyoda, President of Subaru’s parent company, Toyota , has announced that the next Subaru Impreza would be based on the venerable Toyota Corolla .

In a statement to select members of the press, Toyoda was quoted as saying, “We [at Toyota] are always looking to consolidate redundant parts of our lineup so we can pass our cost savings on to our customers. Because of this, we are pleased to announce that the next generation of the Subaru Impreza will be based on our Toyota Corolla, which is the best selling car in the world.”

While Toyoda declined to discuss a timeline for the changes, he did mention that Subaru’s signature boxer engines and symmetrical all wheel drive would not be carried over to the new Impreza because of, “[the] inefficient nature of the design.” He declined to comment further.

Toyoda did however make great note of his excitement over the Impreza’s changes, “Combining Corolla and Impreza designs makes perfect sense. They share the same area on the marketplace and while the Impreza is unique, it was never a class leader. Nevertheless, [the Impreza] will now have the same DNA inside that helped [Toyota] sell over 40 million Corollas.”

A Toyota insider later broke down the changes for us. The new Subaru Impreza will share very little with the Impreza concept that was shown at last year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Instead the new Impreza will receive a face lift to look more similar to its Corolla cousin. Our insider also told us that under the hood, the new Impreza would get the Corolla’s 1.8L 4-cylinder engine driving the front wheels. Lastly and most unfortunately of all, our insider told us that Toyoda will relegate the WRX and WRX STI nameplates to being no more than sporty trim packages with, “Very little, if any,” more power added.

UPDATE 04/01/2011: Sorry to pull one over on you guys, but April Fool’s!!! This is all complete fallacy!

Well, it’s a good thing that the next Toyota Impreza will be based in Corolla. Combining of Corolla and Impreza designs really have a sense just like what the article said. I’m pretty sure that it will still be the best selling car in the world.

Impreza is a good model and i don’t think that its unbelievable that the next Impreza would be based here.lol

Well, thank goodness that its a complete fallacy, And i find it kind of funny to learn that the cheap corolla was based from the Impreza!

Actually, it should be the way around. Hey guys! Don’t make such joke its not funny!lol

When I read the title my eye-brows seriously raised! Heck, if that news was true. I Will laugh hard on it even if its not a good joke at all!

Well, Toyota seems to be pulling up another one on us. After they did this joke, they released the pictures of the actual Impreza, and it looked a bit like the Corolla.

Not really the funniest joke that I heard of. But this one actually does pull it good. A lot of folks I have totally believed this one when they saw it.

Unlike the BMW prank this one is kind of lame! I don’t get the big dealt between the Impreza and Corolla. Its not possible to combine this two lines since both cars where own by Toyota.

Uh-huh, so this is nothig more than a joke. And here I was, praising Toyota for a good decision, only for it to turn out this. The guys there certainly had a great time pulling my leg.

Man, it seems that a lot of the car companies here are way into this April Fools thing. This one is probably the nth time that I have been pranked while reading the car news.

Good one, Christian. But, oh so cruel! My heart sank faster than a SWA 737 diving to 11,000 feet. Imagine, that beautiful Impreza concept car — with great gas mileage at last — being replaced with a gawd-awful grannie-mobile in the form of a rebadged Corolla. THE HORROR!

Well, come to think of it guys, its just a rumor. I hope its only a rumor and I’m keeping my fingers cross! Subaru is million times better than Toyota, they are only going to ruined the credibility of Subaru!

Well, I also don’t see anything wrong wit them basing the next Impreza off the Corolla platform. That would actually help minimize the cost, since they won’t need to develop a new platform.

Well, it is not really that surprising that they chose the Corolla for the new Impreza’s platform. After all, the Collora haws a rather adaptable frame.

For those of you who think this is an April Fool’s joke...Congratulations! You are absolutely correct! April Fool’s!! Toyota has said nothing of the sort in regards to the Impreza and the Corolla.

Toyota is killing the Subaru name and what it stands for I feel like throwing up on a toyota right now .. Sporty trim package wtf I have nothing more to say barffffff

This HAS GOT TO BE A JOKE!!!! "inefficient nature of the design.”-my ass! There is a reason why it’s called Symmetrical AWD, it’s perfectly balanced! Subaru was pretty much the only manufacturer who had increase in it’s sales during recession. .... I have lots more to say but it’s not worth it :/

i do hope this is an April fools joke because this would ruin the Impreza and Subaru as a whole. a Subaru without AWD or a Boxer engine is just stupid. and then to take away the WRX and STI cars and make them packs, JUST DOES NOT FLY!!!!!!!

Please tell me that this is an April Fools joke. How cold toyota do something like this to Subaru? They will kill a legend...
