The Nissan 200SX was a sport compact coupe that was produced between 1995 and 1998. It was a two-door version of the Nissan Sentra that ended up dying away, but not before it gave its engine over to the Sentra. Now, after more than 15 years Nissan prepares to bring back the 200SX nomenclature. This name will be used for a new model that will compete with models like the next Mazda RX-7->ke344 and the Volkswagen Scirocco.

The future model will be placed beneath the current Nissan 370Z and will be a rear wheel drive model. Nissan has yet to find a suitable platform for the future car, but the possibilities include a cut-down 370Z chassis or the platform used for the Tiida.

One thing is for sure; if Nissan is planning to target models like the Scirocco then the next 200SX will have to use an inline-four engine that will deliver at least 200 HP. The new model will have to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in around 7 seconds and to hit a top speed of 140 mph.

Next to the 200SX, Nissan is also preparing a replacement for the Almera that will compete with models like the Volkswagen Golf->ke164 and Ford Focus->ke440.
