Winners of the North American car of the year title will be announced on Jan. 13, the first press preview day of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. They will be chosen from: Cadillac CTS, Chevrolet Malibu and Honda Accord for cars and Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and Mazda CX-9 for the trucks section.

The vehicles were picked from 54 cars and trucks new this year to the U.S. market. General Motors Corp. swept the last year with the Saturn Aura sedan and Chevrolet Silverado pickup.

Winners will be chosen by a jury made by 50 automotive journalists, which will recognize vehicles based on a number of factors including design, safety and driver satisfaction. Vehicles must be new or significantly different from the previous model to be considered.
