One-77 supercar breaks speed record for an Aston Martin

Amidst all the hoopla surrounding the release of other supercars recently – among them the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG , the Ferrari 458 Italia , and the Lexus LF-A – one soon-to-be-released limited run supercar has been inexplicably left in the backburner.

Not anymore.

One-77 supercar breaks speed record for an Aston Martin

The Aston Martin One-77 recently went on a test run to gauge the top speed of the car and the results have been nothing short of jaw-dropping. The One-77 supercar recorded a speed of 220.007 mph, which if you’re keeping track, is the fastest any car Aston Martin has ever produced.

The previous record-holder was the Aston Martin Vanquish with a time of just a shade over 200 mph, which, needless to say the One-77 easily vanquished, no pun intended.

Press release after the jump.

Aston Martin’s One-77 supercar has moved closer to setting a new all-time record for the British marque in initial high speed testing after surpassing all predictions and comfortably breaking the 200mph mark.

The One-77 is currently undergoing a stringent development process ahead of planned launch in 2010 with high speed testing taking place at a top secret proving ground in southern Europe. In a series of test runs completed last week the One-77 exceeded original expectations and recorded a 220.007mph (354.86kmh) top speed in dry but windy conditions under the guidance of the Aston Martin engineering team. Dynamic testing is now scheduled to continue into the New Year.

Powered by a new Aston Martin 7.3 litre V12 engine, the One-77 is engineered to deliver breathtaking levels of power and performance. The dramatically styled two-door, two-seat sports coupe is based on an innovative new carbon fibre monocoque body structure and adopts new active aerodynamic technology.

The One-77 is the ultimate expression of what Aston Martin stands for and will combine modern technology and design with craftsmanship and ultimate exclusivity to create the world’s most desirable automotive art form.

As name suggests, production is limited up to a maximum of 77 individually numbered examples, with deliveries expected to commence in mid-2010.

HOLY COW!!This is my fave car ever( and oh,boy I know about zillions of cars. And drove some of them on Forza 3) and this makes the Ferrari Enzo and Lamborghini Reventon look like the Reva G-Wizz and Tata Nano.

P.S Uncia,get a Mazda Furai.You’ll love it.

It’s a gorgeous car from every angle...except the front. From the front, it looks horrendous....

This model has cool features with flashy design and a carbonfiber monocoque. It is powered by a 7.2-liter V12 driving the rear-wheels.

Wow, super break, I’d love to hear the screech and the black markings on the road.

I have a positive view about this car and they’ll not mess up on the upcoming car show. Well it’s their last chance because their production was quite dropped down on the market so it’s their chance to prove us their capability on building quality cars just like their previous works.

Well congratulations for breaking the speed record eventhough the speed of this One-77 may crap up the Mercedes and the Stallion, I don’t think this car may crap up other car brands when it comes to the racing events or underground racing. Ferrari 458 Italia will beat up this newbie car.

Beautiful car, but 220 mph? Why? With that much power I would have geared it for quicker acceleration, which would be much more useful on any track. As far as I’m concerned a car doesn’t need to go above 180 mph.
