Opel Insignia Coupe in the works

Top Speed has already reported that Opel will bring back the Calibra name . This European vehicle will compete with models like the Volkswagen Scirocco , and just like the new sky rocket, will not be offered in the U.S. market. Well, AutoExpress shed a little more light on the subject and are adding a few more details about the new Opel.

The German car builder will sell this new design as a coupe version of the new Insignia model starting 2012. The vehicle’s design is inspired by the Opel GTC concept . Under the hood Opel will place the same turbocharged 2.8 Liter V6 found in the new Insignia OPC . This means the Insignia Coupe will have an output of around 350 HP, capable of sprinting from 0 to 60 MPH in under 6 seconds and have a top speed limited to 155 MPH.

The future Opel will share most of what you can’t see from the outside with the Insignia, but will feature a modified suspension and a refined four wheel drive system. Besides this new Insignia Coupe, Opel plans on bringing a compact cabriolet to market. The vehicle will be based on the Corsa and will replace the now defunct Tigra model.

A very promising move for the Opel. This is a good decision that inspite the effects of recession, car manufacturers are still very possitive with their intention to provide better and more functional line up.
