When Porsche->ke1 announced the initial details on their 918 Spyder, they reported a price tag of $845,000 for the US market, but a leaked document suggests that the car will actually be priced at 768,026 euro, or about $995,976 at the current exchange rates. That price is also only good for the stock car, adding any additional equipment will make it considerable higher.

Let's take a look at the stock car, though. Its design was inspired by legendary racing cars such as the Porsche 917 Le Mans and the current Porsche RS Spyder. The exterior design is defined by striking rear hoods extending out of the headrests and retractable air intakes with a ram air function. The production version will also make intense use of carbon fiber and aluminum for improved crash safety. The model will be offered with a full carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) monocoque with unit carrier, fully adaptive aerodynamics, adaptive rear-axle steering and the upward-venting "top pipes" exhaust system. The interior gets sports bucket seats, a touch-sensitive surface for intuitive control of the car’s functions and three-spoke multifunction sports steering wheel.

In stock form, the Porsche 918 Spyder is spectacular, but then there are the available options that can turn this perfect hybrid sports car into a true work of art.
