The Oakley Design Porsche->ke1 GT2 is a special machine. From the factory the twin turbo supercar produces 523 HP from its variable turbine technology flat six that is a beast to drive on the street. Whereas the modified version benefits from a healthy diet of carbon fiber and boost that make it encouraging to get the back end a little loose.

The Oakley Design Porsche GT2 features a lot of carbon fiber. The front lip, front spoiler, the lip on the rear spoiler, the roof, the wheels and even the roll cage is all made out of the black stuff. All aero pieces have been proven to be functional in the wind tunnel.

The roll cage looks more like a modern sculpture dedicated to the lightweight space age material. The piece has already undergone the strict TÜV testing and is awaiting approval from the FIA; weighing in at only 12 kg compared to 60 kg for a traditional steel version, you can expect to see them in almost every race car in the near future.

To assist the driver with lightning fast shifts the milled piece that is the gear lever is connected to a sequential shifter originally intended for 996 Cup cars and bolt directly to the Porsche gearbox. The pilot sits securely in suede racing buckets and steers the GT2 with a suede covered steering wheel.

The suspension is stiffer but also more forgiving. The back end now breaks traction more progressively allowing the car to step out more seamlessly, quite the opposite of the tail spinning rear engine Porsche.

The power has been raised from 523 HP to 632 HP thanks to a re tuned ECU and the installation of a pair of KKK turbochargers. Because the variable geometry units have been replaced turbo lag is more significant in the Oakley car, but its ability to find power at the end of fourth and fifth gear more than makes up for it.

Porsche 997 GT2 - from Oakley Design

Following the success of the Oakley Design 997 GT3 & RS programme much of the ethos and research & development could be carried over to the approach of creating the ultimate drivers 997 GT2.

Oakley Design approach is to subdivide each area into project areas; such as:

* Aerodynamics

* Braking System

* Cooling

* Engine

* Exhaust System

* Suspension

* Transmission etc.

The key to a creating a successful package is the understanding of the relationships between these areas; for example: Exhaust System design has a dependant relationship with the engine and any modifications to the engine require the correct capacity / design to extract the most performance. The engine is also related to the transmission and also to a lesser extent with the suspension, braking etc.

As such you can be confident that Oakley Design as carefully thought out the complete package which we tested & developed with partners and over many miles of road and track work– we are delighted with the result.
