Porsche->ke1 has now issued a recall for all 2014 911 GT3->ke617 sports cars due to the risk of fire. We reported last week that Porsche issued at stop sale on all GT3s pending the automaker’s investigation. At that time, five vehicles had already caught fire with seemingly no warning or reason. Thankfully, no injuries or traffic accidents were associated with the roasting Porsches.

Porsche is currently contacting all 785 worldwide owners with recommendations to stop using their GT3 until the problem is sorted out. The company is offering to pick up the vehicles for delivery to a dealer for inspection and possible service. Porsche is still unsure of what’s causing the fires, but know the fires are originating with the 3.8-liter, flat-six engine.

With at least one of the incidents, the owner reported a loss of oil pressure followed by unusual noises and smells, followed then by smoke before the rear-engine sports car->ke506 engulfed itself in flames.

Porsche 911 GT3

The Porsche 911 GT3 is perhaps the epitome of performance. Faster than most anything on the road, the GT3’s 3.8-liter flat-six engine pushes the car from 0 to 60 in an astonishing 3.3 seconds on its way to a 195 mph top speed. The rear-engine sports car sends its power to the rear wheels through either a traditional manual transmission or Porsche’s PDK automatic.

When the recall and stop sale are over, a GT3 can be yours for just $130,000. That’s a lot of dough, but relatively speaking, it’s a great bargain compared to other cars costing four times as much yet not providing the same level of performance.
