In the past few days, talks about Porsche->ke1 have stemmed around the fact that they reported a net profit of €37 million (about $48.2 million) despite the fact that they had sold the remaining 50.1% stake of their core sports-car business to Volkswagen which took off €4.37 billion (about $5.7 billion) off their bottom line. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that Porsche is doing rather well in their endeavors and will be doing even better once their future 918 Spyder hits the pavement.

There hasn't been much talk about the company's first plug-in hybrid model in awhile and even though it is still a year away from its official debut, a few journalists were able to jump into the passenger seat of a rough prototype to see what it can do, including the folks from Wired.com who were kind enough to share their images of the Mad Maxx-looking prototype.

As Porsche has already confirmed, the 918 Spyder production version will drop the concept's 3.4 liter V8 engine in favor of a new 4.6 liter version based on the RS Spyder LMP2 race car. This engine will deliver a total of 570 HP and will be combined with three electric motors that will increase the total output to an impressive 770 HP. These numbers will be enough to get the car from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3 seconds and from 0 to 124 mph in less than 9 seconds. Top speed will sit at 202 mph, but when it is running solely on electricity, that top speed will jump down to 90 mph.
