We've been keeping a close eye on the vehicles ready to take center stage during one of the decade's most talked about event. The world seems to have Prince William and Kate Middleton fever, and we're catching the bug when it comes to the royal carriages housing the guests of honor during one of the most important days of their lives.

The Royal Mews houses one of the oldest and most meticulously cared for carriages in the world. This division is responsible for ground transportation of the Queen and other Royals in England, and Prince William and Kate Middleton will be making good use of several of these carriages and other vehicles in the collection during their royal wedding extravaganza. Separate vehicles will be taken by the Prince and Kate on their way to Westminster Abbey for the ceremony and they will leave together in one of the most famous carriages.

Hit the jump to check out which vehicles will be used for the grand wedding event.

Kate Middleton has chosen to arrive at Westminster Abbey in a 1977 Rolls Royce->ke74 Phantom VI that has been in use since it was given to the Queen as a gift. This stately automobile gets regular use and was actually damaged this past December. Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, encountered some unruly protestors and even the back window of the classic Rolls was busted. Repairs have been taking place ever since and the car should be ready to carry Miss Middleton and her Father to the ceremony. The royal fleet actually includes two Phantom VIs including the one Kate will be using which is the “Silver Jubilee” car and another 1986 model. Kate chose this car because it has a raised roof with larger glass windows so that more people could enjoy watching the procession towards the Abbey. Both of the Royal Phantom VIs have no registration plates making them look very clean. They also have special mounts for the Royal Standard and coat of arms.

Once things have finished at the Abbey, the royal procession kicks into high gear. England has retained many of its most cherished traditions and royal weddings have followed the same script for centuries. The newlyweds will leave the Abbey in the 1902 State Landau Carriage. Out of the 100 some odd coaches at the Queen’s disposal, this specific one was chosen for several reasons. It is perhaps the most famous coach, having been built specifically for King Edward VII’s coronation. The Hooper coachbuilding company has held a royal warrant to build their vehicles since 1830 and this coach was one of its most famous pieces.

King Edward VII was a rather large man and this coach was made to accommodate him in the ways of ingress and space once inside. The body is mated to the carriage frame in such a manner that the body actually moves in a circular motion while be pulled by the horses. The 48-inch wide body is complete with a plush red velvet interior and more polished wood than a factory full of Rolls Royce models. There is no top on the carriage so the hundreds and thousands of bystanders will have a perfect view of the new couple. The contingency for rain is to use the equally famous glass coach that has carried nearly every royal couple before them .

Following the State Landau carriage will be four other Royal carriages for the Queen, wedding party, and parents of the bride and groom. On the way through the city, the carriage procession will pass by many landmarks including the Houses of Parliament, The Mall, and eventually end at Buckingham Palace.
