Roush Mustang JDM Drag car makes the quarter mile in 9s; 6s to follow

When anyone thinks of turning their Mustang into a perfect combination of street car and race car, they probably hit up the Roush website for any new technologies the company may have brought out. After all, Roush Performance is, without a doubt, a leader in Mustang conversions and their supercharger system, the ROUSHcharger, is the epitome of performance. Anyone would be crazy not to want a piece of that.

Back in August, Roush announced a new supercharger kit for the 2011 Ford Mustang 5.0 that took the engine’s power from 412 HP to a monstrous 550 HP. Seeing an opportunity before him, Jim D’Amore III at JDM Engineering took that supercharger and ran with it in the NMRA Drag Racing competition this season in a2011 ROUSH Mustang , eventually snatching up the win in the Super Stang championship. Thanks to the tremendous power generated from the ROUSHcharger kit, the car has already been in the 9.9-second range at 138 mph.

D’Amore reported that this was on 17 pounds of boost, but wanted to keep the car slower than 10.0-seconds for the race season (the legal limit for the roll cage). Since then, they have installed a larger balancer pulley creating 20 psi of boost and have picked up another 40 HP and are now running with an excess of 700 HP under the hood. The team’s prediction is that the car should soon be running in the 9.65-second range at 140 mph.

Looking at this car I would say that this is just a lame production. However, what’s interesting was on its under the hood. 700 hp is quite an powerful engine. BTW, I wonder of this car still has a difficulty on its corner?

Wow! This race just proved that Mustang really evolve during the past decades! The speed performance of this car is great and I’m glad to see on how far this car can go!

@JaysonIdler , think before you say anything! Mustang has an timeless beauty that’s why many tuning company prefer to modify this version. Have you read the full detailing of Roush Mustang? Better read it the drool aftersmiley

The specification of Roush Mustang is quite impressive and the engine produces an output of 500 hp! Well, I think that figure is too much for a Mustang.

haha. I think whoever expect the Mustang to be fast is kind of crazy! I think they shouldn’t made such expectation on the old dude. Even if its timeless I have to admit its engine is kind of outdated.

Wow that’s nice! I didn’t know that Mustang can still race. I have read bad reviews about Mustang, saying that its better if it would be killed. But here it is, a proof that Mustang is timeless and a living legend.

The boys on LSI Tech will be glad to here this as well as Mopar fans. Can’t you just see it now , the new Camaro and the new Challenger is out with the Mustang boys once again in Super Stock classes .

Shipping weight of a standard Roush coupe is 3316?No way in hell, unless this is some kinda stripped out drag pack, but no where in the article does it say that.

Hard to imagine anything more boring than ANY Mustang. It was a great innovation in 1965, but has been on the decline ever since. At one point, the Mustang was even built from a Ford Pinto chassis—a wretched thing if there ever was one.

You never get tired of saying how stupid they are, so why would you think that the people who like the cars would get tired of reading about them?

You nimrods don’t understand that the majority of performance and styling products in or on your cars were developed and tested for racing purposes before they because OEM.

The number of moron postings is getting unbearable around here. I bet most of you think you’re "car guys". However, you have no clue about racing (any form) and how it correlates to the automotive industry.

I guess they built it for one purpose, and that is to keep on winning... Hopefully the GT-R come over to get smoked by the Roush.

agree on whay you said, roush has been known for making an ultra fast car such as these, but I really wanted them to tuned a GT-R and see what they can do to it.

It seems like the Roush’s superchargers can be quite useful if you’re one of those who just can’t help taking part in big-name drag racing competitions.

dang that was fast, I wonder if a gt-r can smoke this baby..

Some of the issues on the old car were addressed, such as the insufficient leg room in the rear and the lazy diesel engine.

The greatest things are born from passion!

Don’t wanna be there when the wheels start flying around smiley

Where is the video guys? This needs to be seen! smiley If not for the video, than for the sweet sound of the engine!
