Saab are out in front again in the eco car stakes, as from the 20th November 2006 you can go along to your local Saab dealership and take a good look at the new eco friendly Saab 9-5 BioPower! What on earth is Biopower? Well it is a mix of bioethanol and petrol, 85% to 15% respectively which the manufacturers claim to achieve a 70% reduction in Co2 output but at the same time produce a higher octane rating, normal unleaded petrol produces around 95, while super unleaded gives 97/98. surprisingly the eco friendly bio mix has an octane rating of 107 which in turn develops an astonishing 210 bhp compared to the 185 bhp for the standard petrol equivalent.

With a major push around the globe for climate control and many cities imposing hefty tolls and levies on the owners of gas guzzling vehicles, car manufacturers are almost compelled to produce cars that are eco friendly, yet in the case of the Saab 9-5 BioPower more powerful than the regular fuel guzzling counterparts. What's the price, well we are looking at a starting price of around £22,000, insurance group 13, and an 33 miles to the gallon, not for an eco friendly car, not bad at all.
