Saleen plans to stop building vehicles by end of 2011

Bad news for all Saleen fans out there! Revstone Industries, the company that builds models for Saleen, has announced that by the end of 2011 they will no longer produce vehicles for Saleen. The main reason for their decision is "the confusion and controversy with Steve Saleen’s company, SMS Supercars."

In an official letter sent to dealers, Saleen said: "Over the past several years, we have witnessed a lot of confusion around the Saleen brand, due to a number of financial ups and downs and accompanying changes in ownership. The name itself has become the center of countless conversations and debates, detracting from the cars themselves, and from the culture of performance that they both embody and serve."

"Through our conversations with Ford Motor Company and one another, we have come to feel that those things have become overshadowed by questions surrounding the name. So we want to wipe the slate clean, and usher in a new era of American Muscle. We are confident that, in time, you will agree this was the right decision."

Plan to see the same type of American muscle, but under a different brand that has yet to be determined.

I agree with you Tom_Guts, for sure that’s closely to happened since they are going to lie low a bit. However to tell frankly, they are not a big lose anyway. There are a lot of good line like Chevy and Dodge that makes an awesome muscle cars.

I don’t think so Tom_Guts, Saleen made the most awesome car in the Us. If will "lie low for a while " and be out in the lime light, I don’t think that it will be easy for them to come back because of the competitive and growing competition in the market. And aside from that, i have heard that management in the company is not getting well anymore.

But it seems that they won’t be closing down for good. It is likely that they will simply drop the Saleen name and lie low for a while before reemerging.

Agreed with you on that one. In fact, I am not really surprised on this one, as I am already aware of the rumors, about Saleen’s impending closure, though I never thought hat this would be this quick.

Oh! So sad to hear that..Saleen is a nice supercar though. But I think they are not a big lost afterall. I think people doesn’t need another brand of supercar but rather a environmental friendly supercars and improvement of technology, design and styling.

This one is really not a welcome news. Saleen has always been considered as one of the strongest car names around, so this would be hard to take.

That one’s definitely going to be a disappointment. Saleen is one of the most recognized brands when it comes to supercars, so this is quite saddening.
