Gran Turismo 5 will either revolutionize the car racing video game genre or it will be fail to live up to the Titan-like expectations the public has given it. That’s it. After yet another push-back release date, Gran Turismo 5 has lost the middle ground. While it’s conceivable that Sony is still tinkering with GT5’s system to ensure that fans of the racing franchise get their money’s worth, you can’t blame these same fans for their ever-shortening patience given that Sony has, apparently, delayed the release of the driving simulation game once again.

This time, it was Al Dia, CEO of Sony Entertainment Portugal, who revealed to the Spanish site Canarias that Sony is now aiming to ship out GT5 before Christmas. By our account, that’s about the fifth time the game’s release date has been moved. First, it was the fall of 2009, then Christmas 2009, then March of 2010, then summer of 2010, and now it’s “shortly before Christmas”?

Before you know it, the polar ice caps would have already melted, Seth Green would have already won an Academy Award and still GT5 won’t have been released yet. In their defense, Sony is saying that the “priority is to make this game with the best quality as possible”. Fair enough. But for the last time, please don’t give ‘target release dates’ unless you’re completely sure. Otherwise, gamers that have waited ages for GT5 to be released just might find Forza 3 a little more appealing.

At least that game’s already been released.
