A mildly camouflaged, next-generation Audi R8 has hit the Nurburgring->ke999 track again, revealing a few never-before-seen details. You're probably anxious to ogle at its sexy, supercar->ke177-like body, but the fake body panels mounted on the front and the rear fascias blocked our paparazzi, yet again.

The good news is the folks over at Audi->ke14 have brought with them a second prototype with a fully uncovered interior, a perfect target for our skilled photographers and their lenses. The most noticeable novelty is the introduction of a digital TFT instrument cluster.

The unit comes to replace the more conventional analogue gauges and represents a significant update for a sports car that has some tough competition to bark at. The dashboard is also new, and so are the steering wheels and the air vents, which feature chromed bezels.

Getting back to the outer shell, we're expecting for the brand-new R8 to break cover with a set of smaller headlamps, a reshaped grille and a smoother front hood. Around back, we should see slimmer LED taillights, redesigned vents and rectangular exhaust pipes on each side of the diffuser. Overall, the next R8 will look flatter, wider and even meaner.

Audi will bolt the body on the same platform as the Lamborghini Huracan, which means the new model will shed up to 200 pounds compared to its predecessors. Both the 4.2-liter V-8 and the 5.2-liter V-10 powerplants will carry over with the regular horsepower updates. Naturally, these units will see improvements in the fuel efficiency department as well.

Why It Matters

The next-generation Audi R8 is slowly revealing itself at the Nurburgring, which means we're not too far from seeing the sleek body stripped of its camouflage. The official launch may be about a year away, but we bet we'll get our first glimpses of the sports car->ke506 by the end of the year.
