Yesterday we brought you the first spy shots of the facelifted BMW 5-Series GT, and today our spy photographers have caught the upcoming 1-Series GT testing for the first time in production form. In the previous spy shots, the prototypes featured a different A-pillar and roofline.

The upcoming 1-Series GT has been previewed by the Concept Active Hybrid and will be offered in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions.

The 1-Series GT will be built on BMW's new KL1 platform that it will share with all future compact BMW->ke178 and Mini->ke57 models. Under the hood, BMW will likely place a new 3-cylinder engine standard with two optional powertrains: a 4-cylinder petrol powertrain and a 3-cylinder hybrid powertrain. This latter one will combine a 1.5-liter petrol engine driving the front wheels with an electric motor for the rear axle.

The prototype caught in these spy shots features twin exhaust pipes suggesting it might be a more powerful version. Even if the prototype is still wearing fake lights on the front and rear, it’s revealing more than ever before. There are no more fake panels on the side, giving us a look at the body lines on the doors.

Expect to see the new 1-Series GT in the spring or summer of 2013.
