As you can see, today is a very good day for spy shots. It seems like every automaker out there is taking advantage of the first days of spring in Europe and have taken all of their upcoming models out for some testing. This time around, our spy photographers caught the upcoming 2 Series Coupe. This isn’t the first time we’ve caught the 2er, but it is the first time we caught a glimpse of its interior.

As no surprise, the upcoming 2 Series Coupe will feature an interior similar to the new-generation 3 Series’. This interior includes a three-spoke steering wheel with controls for the main functions of the car; a cockpit specially designed to offer easy access to the important controls; and the fuel gauge, speedometer, rev counter and oil temperature gauges will all have a black-panel displays.

It looks like the future 2 Series Coupe will also be offered with standard iDrive monitor with high-resolution display. Additionally, if you consider the speedometer as an indicator of a car’s top speed, then the 2 Series will be surprisingly fast with its 260 km/h (161 mph) speedo.

Expect the new 2 Series Coupe to be unveiled sometime by the end of 2013.

About the future BMW 2 Series Coupe

The new BMW 2 Series Coupe will come as a replacement for the old 1 Series Coupe model. It will be offered with same engine lineup as the 1 Series hatchback, which includes: a 1.6-liter TwinPower turbocharged four-cylinder petrol unit with 170 horsepower and a revised 2.0-liter engine with an output of about 181 horsepower. There will also be an M2 variant with a 3.0-liter straight-six-cylinder turbo petrol engine that will deliver up to 350 horsepower.

Competition

Hyundai Genesis Coupe

Since its introduction in 2008, the Genesis Coupe proved itself as one of the most competitive sports coupes on the market. You would be right to ask yourself if the new 2 Series Coupe will indeed be a competitor for the Genesis, but we have to remind you that BMW has promised that the 2 Series will be a lot sportier than the old 1 Series Coupe.

Despite the fact that the 2 Series is a more luxurious model than the Genesis, it will have a lot to prove if it wants to stand up to the Genesis’ 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 274 horsepower. The problem is that the Genesis Coupe comes with a 149 mph electronically limited top speed and the next 2 Series will likely be faster.
