Spy Shots: Mercedes GLA Testing on Public Roads

Mercedes-Benz Concept GLA

This is the second time we have caught the upcoming Mercedes GLA testing, but it is the first time it has been caught testing on public roads. As you can see, this prototype is still heavily camouflaged, but it is not very difficult to figure out that we are looking at the new Mercedes baby SUV.

At first glance, you may think this prototype looks a lot like the A-Class, but upon closer inspection you will notice a beefier and more muscular front end, a more sloped rear window, and, of course, the higher ride height. Also, when compared to the boxy GLK , this GLA has a much rounder body.

The next GLA will be built on the same platform (MFA= Mercedes Front-Wheel Drive Architecture) as the A-Class and the B-Class , and will be offered in both front-wheel four-wheel drive. Under the hood we will see the same engine lineup that the A-Class features, meaning a choice of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

Expect the GLA to hit a showroom sometime in 2014.

it is nice the car will have fron wheel drive instead of rear wheel drive. this will make it more predictable on slippery roads.

maybe their sales for the GLK are still going well, so why have a cheaper smaller car?

i too think that mercedes should speed up the launching of this car. but hey, they know better!

why will they wait until 2014 to launch this car? the X1 and the Q3 will be well into their second generation by then.

i wonder what the price for this car will be. i think it will be around its competitors, the Q3 and the X1.

mercedes does a good job at diversifying it’s vehicle range! good job!

oh, and i forgot the bmw x1. i think they are all together.

it may be against the audi Q3. i guess they are roughly the same size.

this car is a direct competitor for the audi Q3?

who knows otto. the next car they might lauch may be a smart for 2 out-doors, a smart derived SUV. smiley

we have big 4x4 vehicles for off-road, big SUV’s, medium SUV’s, small SUV’s. are we going to have micro SUV’s?

a nice car! it has nice lines. i think it will be another success for Mercedes.
