If you ever wanted to own a Ferrari 275->ke3515, your chance is coming up. RM Auctions has been entrusted with the sale of this special Fezza, and it will hit the block in Monterey this August. Just make sure to bring your big boy wallet; this one wont go cheap.

Not only, is this a pristine example of a 275 GTB/4, it was also owned and customized by Steve McQueen. The car was ordered by McQueen in 1967 and was delivered to him in the middle of filming "Bullit."

While the car originally arrived wearing gold paint, McQueen quickly had it painted red. The wire wheels are also not standard. They came off a different 275 that McQueen had wrecked.

After a few years of ownership, the car was sold to Guy Williams. Over the years it passed through many hands, but the latest owner had the car fully restored. Don't be worried about the quality of that restoration, as the car has been on display at the Ferrari Museum in Italy ever since the refurb.

This could be the perfect addition to any Ferrari collection, but you will need to pay for the privilege. Sales estimates are as high as $9 million.

Why It Matters

Every time a new classic Ferrari goes up for sale, I wonder if it will set a new record for sales. It seems crazy that these classic cars are getting more and more expensive every year, but eventually this market will break, and the cars will start to get cheaper again.

By watching the continual swings of the classic car buying trends, you can make a better informed decision about what cars are going to be worth now, and what they may be worth in the future.

Remember, a car is only worth as much as what someone wants to pay for it. If every billionaire already has a few classic Fezzas, suddenly they stop buying them. That means that your new lower offer, might be the one they take.

Ferrari 275 GTB/4

The Ferrari 275 was another in their long line of V-12-powered GT cars. It only had a four year production cycle from 1964 through 1968, but Ferrari had at least 7 different variations of the 275 in that time. This makes the 275 lineup one of the most interesting and sought after of the Ferrari range.

The GTB/4 like McQueen's here is a heavily updated version of the original 275 GTB. The /4 indicates this car has a four cam engine, and it featured six separate carburetors. Total power output was estimated at 300 horsepower.

The 275 was also the first Ferrari to be fitted with a rear trans-axle system for weight balance and handling performance.
