Good news, Porsche enthusiasts! Porsche has announced that its factory team will return to Le Mans 24 Hours in 2013. This is the first time Porsche will make the run since 1998.

For the exciting and hotly anticipated season, Porsche will race two new GT3 cars based on the 991 generation->ke1920 of the Porsche 911->ke282. Known as the 911 GT3 RSR, it will be a track-only version of the 911 GT3 supercar that will compete in the GTE category, which is a category of race cars based on production supercars.

The factory team will be headed up by Porsche’s favorite Team Manthey, which is known for winning the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race five times. It looks like the team is in good hands, we guess.

Though the 911 GT3 and the GT3 RSR are in the final stages of testing, and their early-2013 launch is definitely fitting, as Porsche celebrates the 50th anniversary of the 911, one of the greatest creations in automobile history.
