When Lincoln showed off the Navigator Concept in New York last year, we thought for sure Lincoln was trying to give us a reach around without the happy ending. But, as it turns out, that isn’t the case at all. The new Lincoln Navigator doesn’t just show progressive thinking and a true understanding of public desire, but it looks nearly identical to the concept – something that just doesn’t happen these days with American-made vehicles. It’s got those long, beautiful body lines, that new grille design that’s prominent and dominating, the mildly aggressive hood, and a stylish fascia that is actually an improvement over the 2016 concept. And, if that isn’t enough, LED fog lights are hidden down below, while the headlight transfer straight over from concept with an even more modern look thanks to extremely clear lenses and a healthy dose of LED light. But, it doesn’t stop there.

It might not have the cool gullwing doors that the concept had, but you open those doors, and you’ll find one of the plushest interiors in this segment. A huge departure from the aged and overplayed current-gen model, this interior is also nearly identical to the concept. The dash is low and straight to the point, providing a firm basis for a spacious interior. Where the last-gen model was big and bulky, the new model is on-point and upscale – exactly what the Lincoln brand is supposed to stand for. The seats offer excessive padding and support while the center console serves as a nerve center for interior control. The infotainment system controls are integrated with the HVAC controls, a feature that saves space and simplifies things at the same time. A new shifter design (buttons on the dash) make the console more open and more like a command center than anything offered by the competition.

Luxury Worth Paying For

So, we’ve already established that the new Navigator looks gorgeous on the outside, but it’s about more than looks. The little things really make a car stand out, and the Navigator does just that. When approached with key fob in hand, the Lincoln logo on the grille will subtly illuminate. This is followed by the LED lighting in the lower fascia and the taillamps. Below the doors appears a Lincoln welcome mat – not a bad way for your ride to say hello, right?

On the inside, you’ll find ambient lighting to go with a panoramic roof. There are three rows of seating that offer seating for seven, and an absolutely gorgeous interior all the way around. In the very back, you’ll find a new cargo management system that features an adjustable shelf that can be customized in a position to suit your needs. The shelf is designed to prevent cargo from tipping even if the vehicle is parked on an incline. There are a total of six USB ports, four 12-volt outlets, and a 110-volt outlet. As an option, you can get a wireless phone charger for front passengers as well. A new feature known as personal profile allows the vehicle to automatically adjust things based on driver preference before you even sit down inside the vehicle. This includes adjusting the seating position, mirror position, pedal position, and even the climate control settings. Front seats feature massage, heating, and cooling functionality, and can be adjusted 30 different ways to ensure you’re always comfortable on long trips and short runs.

Infotainment is handled by Lincolns SYNC3 system, which comes complete with phone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Second-row passengers get their own center console complete with HVAC and audio controls. Third-row occupants enjoy a power recline feature, something that surely makes the third row a bit more comfortable. If you opt for the rear seat entertainment package, you’ll get a pair of 10-inch screens mounted to the back of the front seats. Passengers can stream content wirelessly or via an SD card, USB connection, or HDMI cable. Finally, you can opt for a Revel Ultima audio system with a total of 20 speakers – it’s said to transform the cabin into a personal theater. Want to take a road trip?

Finally, let’s talk about the greasy bits before we sign off for the day. Under the hood sits a twin-turbo V-6 engine. Lincoln has yet to release any real information but says that it’s projected to produce upward of 450 horsepower and delivers power to the wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission. We suspect this is the same high-output 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 found in the new Ford F-150 Raptor. The aluminum-alloy body helps the Navigator shed some 200 pounds over the last-gen model. The Navigator also gets speed-dependent adaptive lighting that will supply a wider beam of light at lower speeds and a refined beam at highway speeds.

There’s no word on pricing quite yet, but it’s set to go on sale for the 2018 model year. That said, we should receive full specs, additional details, and full pricing information sometime in the third quarter of 2017. Until then, let us know what you think in the comments section below.
