Top Gear USA to have its own Stig?

Top Gear USA is hell bent on replicating the success enjoyed by its namesake – and original Top Gear – over at the UK. And while trying to even come within a puncher’s chance of being mentioned in the same breath as the original show is a monumental task in its own right, Top Gear USA is doing its best to do take elements from the UK show and put them into their own.

According to sources that spoke with Jalopnik, one of the elements present in the UK – or at least until Ben Collins outed himself and got fired in the process – that is being rumored to be making its way to Top Gear USA is no less than The Stig.

We don’t know how valid this rumor is, but Jalopnik’s source has said that not only is a U.S. Stig going to be in Top Gear USA, but the car testing site for the US has also been determined to be at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station just outside of Irvine, California.

All of this is still speculation until an official announcement is made, but we’re secretly optimistic that we will be able see the “U.S. Stig” hit the History Channel starting this fall. Now if only he can learn to drive left-hand vehicles.

I think Adam Carolla is serviceable but this show simply isn’t going to work in the US because they can’t be as brutally honest as those three Brits.

Good job coping the cinematography, but I get the impression that Tanner is the only one that can drive other than a straight line. Wonder if he’s doing all the real action shots because I don’t get the impression the other two guys could. And they are trying too hard to get us to believe they know what they’re talking about. Maybe that’s how the real TG started.

Hah! They could unionise: "International Brotherhood of Stig"

Or would that be "Cousinhood"?

The Stig is the embodiment of great drivers past present and future; the image we see in ourselves when we dream of being professional racers

Well, it was all just speculations for now but not until we saw that stig. Let’s just wait for it.

They could make it that way, Top Gears in other countries could also get their own Stig and soon make a Federation of Stigs Worldwide.
