It seems only fitting that with all the controversy he has been involved with in the past year, The Stig would end up taking a much-needed hiatus from his job as Top Gear->ke1860’s resident driver. But while our definition of a vacation involves white sand beaches or a round of golf at the local clubhouse, the Stig has a different approach: end up in God-knows-where and ask you to find him while being surrounded by people from all walks of life.

This is “Top Gear: Where’s Stig?”, the latest game from BBC Interactive. Taking a ‘page’ from the hit book of the same title, which, in turn was inspired by the ‘Where’s Waldo’ franchise, Top Gear: Where’s Stig? will test not just your familiarity with Top Gear’s inaudible test driver, but will also test how sharp your eyes are, as well as your attention-to-detail.

Find the Stig, his Top Gear buddies, and a boatload of other items, and you’ll be well on your way to unlocking the mysterious driver’s whereabouts. Are you up for it?

Graphics

Don’t expect any cutting-edge realism with this game because it’s not actually a racing game. There are no supercars, no high-speed chases, and certainly no car crashes. It takes its cartoon graphics from the book of the same title featuring a lot of people sporting colorful clothing with the Stig – in his trademark white race suit and white helmet – being one of them. If you’re looking for a game with sick graphics, then you’re barking up the wrong tree. This game is for the kids, the kids-at-heart, and adults like us that have a perpetual obsession with Top Gear.

Controls

The controls are pretty simple. If you find someone that you're looking for all you need to do is touch that subject - be it a person or an item. You can also zoom in on the photo if you're having a hard time looking for the subjects in normal view. Trust us, this feature is more important than it sounds.

Gameplay

The game is pretty straightforward, albeit a lot more difficult than it looks. Set against a backdrop of 11 different puzzles in a variety of settings - the Top Gear studio, the jungles of Botswana, and the white as ice North Pole, just to name a few – the only thing you need to do is find our favorite resident non-talking test driver amidst the visual cacophony of a thousand strangers.

Sound easy to you? Well, it’s not.

In addition to spotting the Stig, you’re also tasked to find some of his Top Gear friends, including – of course! – the Top Gear Dog as well as items that are, shall we say, indigenous to the setting. Like we said, it’s a lot harder than it looks. So go ahead and give it a shot because if you’ve gotten anything other than 20/20 vision – then you probably will have a harder time than you think finding all the items, the people, and the Stig in this game.

Pricing

The game is available on all iSomething platforms (the iPhone, iPod Touch, and the iPad) with a price range from $2.99 to $4.99 depending on what device you have. You can scoop up the game at the iTunes store now.

Awesome Scale

Score: 7

We’ve just started playing with the game and as advertised, it’s quite a handful. This game will rely exclusively on how keen your sense of sight is. There’s no racing involved, but you should already know that even before you make the purchase.
