There are certain vehicles that just sell well. Take the Honda Accord->ke237 and Toyota Camry->ke246 for instance. No matter what happens or how good the competition is, these two will sell well for their companies. We’re not saying that there is anything wrong with these two models, except for the Camry, which is dull as a dishwasher, but a buyer needs to look at what else is on the table. The first choice might not be the best choice.

In many cases, the cars that are often ignored are the better buys. These are the dark horses of the automotive world. These are cars that fly under the radar of the American public.

Below are our ten best cars that aren’t quite known to the general public. Sure, us car people know about them, but your average consumer might be unaware. This list is not a top ten; so don’t think that one is better than ten, because it might not be.

There are a few models on the list that won’t be under the radar for long, but as of now, we still consider them dark horse models.

Hit the jump to see the list.

1) 2010 Suzuki Kizashi:

We were lucky enough to get a chance to drive this sedan and we were very impressed. It offers fantastic looks inside and out, a big trunk, a powerful engine, and great interior materials. This car could easily pass for an entry-level luxury car, but luckily it’s not, so the price is low. The Kizashi->ke3052 is a little smaller than the Accord and Camry, but it’s the best choice for people who don’t need a big family sedan. We reviewed the Kizashi a while back and found it to be stunningly good.

2) 2010 Mazda 5:

Full-size minivans are neat, but they are bit too big. The Mazda 5->ke1428 offers the same sort of options and room as the bigger boys, but in a smaller package. This compact minivan will give you power-sliding doors and room for six people. It’s also a bit more maneuverable than the large vans, so those trips to the grocery stores will be a tad bit easier.

3) 2010 Subaru Legacy:

Who doesn't like all-wheel drive? Apparently most people, as the Legacy->ke1402 hasn't sold nearly as well as the competition. That's odd to us because the Subaru looks great inside and out, drives well, and offers the safety of all-wheel drive in bad weather. There is little wrong with the Legacy. It might cost a bit more than the Fusion->ke433 and other cars, but it's well worth it.

4) 2010 Hyundai Genesis:

They might not have the same sort of brand recognition as Audi or Mercedes, but Hyundai has come a long way. In fact, the Genesis->ke2924 doesn’t have many badges on it at all. The Hyundai offers everything a luxury car shopper could possible want and maybe just a bit more. It’s powerful, looks good and handles well. Plus, since it’s a Hyundai, it’s fairly cheap too.

5) 2010 Buick LaCrosse:

Remember the Buick models of the 1990s? Sadly, we do as well, but things have changed for the better over at GM. The new LaCrosse->ke1790 isn’t your grandparents Buick. With bold, assertive styling and one of most modern looking interiors in the segment, this is truly a Buick for the new generation. It even drives well too. The car has sharp, well-balanced handling and it’s pretty quick. We had a chance to drive one on the Wisconsin interstates and it was clear that this car is a highway cruiser. If you’re in the market for an entry-level luxury sedan, the LaCrosse is worth a look.

6) 2010 Kia Sedona:

For the best bang for your buck van, the Kia Sedona->ke1040 is the top of the list. This van offers all the features that you can find on the popular vans, but without the large sticker price. It rides well and it has enough room for the whole family. Plus, with Kia’s warranty, this van is hard to ignore. You might not be the coolest mom in the soccer field parking lot, but you might be the smartest.

7) 2010 Subaru Outback:

It seems like we could add every model that Subaru makes as an under the radar machine. They just haven't caught on with the mainstream crowd. The Outback->ke1052 is an amazing off-road machine and it looks fairly good as well. The interior is sharp and the thing is bound to live forever. These are the kinds of vehicles that keep going and going and going.

8) 2010 Mazda 3:

In a world dominated by Civics and Corollas, the little Mazda->ke504 is left out of most conversations. But, those who leave this machine out will be feeling a bit sick, as the 3 is a fantastic car. The interior is best in class and the way it drives is stunning. This car is ahead of the Civic and way ahead of the Corolla. Now all we need is a few buyers.

9) 2010 Volkswagen Routan:

Another van that is getting no love is the Routan->ke3023. Part of the reason for the lack of sales is down to the price, as this van isn't cheap. Yet, a high price tag should not deter buyers from German engineering and a great looking machine. It drives well and has plenty of room inside. If you want to be a bit different, this van is the way to go.

10) 2010 Suzuki SX4:

It might not be mightier than the Mini, but it’s still pretty good. With lots of standard features, a spacious cabin, and a pleasant driving experience, the SX4->ke943 is wonderful. You can even get all-wheel drive. Not to mention the price is pretty low compared to the competition.
