TopSpeed's Best of 2010: Coupe of the Year

This year the war in the coupe segment was fought between the Mustang and the Camaro , at least in terms of news segments. The muscle car wars took held the strings that controlled the news puppet, but was that enough to name one of them Coupe of the Year?

We’re not telling as of yet, but we can say that we had many things to consider when narrowing down our list for the best coupe of 2010. Audi, for instance, brought the R8 GT and the RS5 , while Cadillac unveiled the CTS-V Coupe . All of these choices made our top five, so the war ensues between German and American coupe models. We made our decision based on design, performance, price and on how the new model was received. It was a hard decision, but we think we made the right one.

Hit the jump to see who won the title of the Best Coupe of 2010.

Fifth place: Audi RS5

Audi RS5

Launched at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the Audi RS5 is powered by a turbocharged V8 engine with a total output of 450 bhp at 8250 rpm and a maximum output of 317 lbs-ft of torque between 4,000 and 6,000 rpm. It sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, while top speed goes up to 173 mph, after removing the limiter.

Fourth place:Chevrolet Camaro

Chevrolet Camaro

Launched in early 2010, the Chevrolet Camaro is offered in three different trims: LS and LT models offered with an advanced, 3.6L direct-injected V-6 engine with variable valve timing and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions. The SS model was offered with 6.2L V-8 engine.

However, because Chevrolet delayed its official launch so many times, we got bored waiting for it and the excitement disappeared.

Third place: Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

Cadillac CTS-V Coupe

This is the last model in the Cadillac CTS-V line-up. It is powered by an LSA 6.2 Liter supercharged Chevrolet Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 V8 that makes a maximum output of 556 HP and 551 lb-ft of torque and can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds.

It is one of the most impressive models Cadillac has launched in the past few years, but its design is something we’ve already seen on the sedan version,so where’s the fun in that?

Second place: Ford Shelby GT500

Ford Shelby GT500

The GT500 is powered by an all new aluminum 5.4 Liter supercharged V8, derived from the unit inside the Ford GT super car, that produces 550 HP and 510 lb-ft of torque. This is the most powerful Mustang Ford has in its line-up, however it didn’t impress us enough to name it the best for 2010.

First Place: Audi R8 GT

Audi R8 GT

The Audi R8 has always been one of the most beautiful cars in the world, and with just a few adjustments, it became even better. This is why the R8 GT made the top of our list. It is powered by a 5.2 FSI V10 that has been tricked out to deliver a total of 560 HP and 540 Nm (398.28 lb-ft) at 6,500 rpm. The result is a sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, from 0 to 124 mph in 10.6 seconds, and a top speed of 198.8 mph. Beauty, speed, and two doors; the Audi R8 GT is our pick for Coupe of the Year.

Yeah, the car has an impressive performance. And I would say that the car has an awesome styling as well.

Well, I have to say that I’m really impressed with the performance and styling of the car. The Audi R8 GT, is such an awesome vehicle. And it seems faster in terms of 0-60 mph.

yes, i agree that Audi is the most beautiful car in the world! With the sporty and luxurious detailing of the A8 no doubt how it win that category.

well for me like others pick I go for the Hyundai Genesis.. because of the design, performance and like many like costs is lesser than other competitors.

BTW, the Audi TT 3.2 Quattro does 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and covers the 1/4 mile in 13.7 seconds @ 100 mph. Very nice performance.

Amazing car...will have to see about adding it to the top list of potential new cars to buy.Really want to get one on an open road...oh wait. DC doesn’t have any. I hope it does well in traffic

Is the Audi R8 a coupe? smiley That’s something new to me!

what you said is true but they pick this on top because of the number of votes, reviews and sales.

well it’s not that I agree with arvine it but honestly what he said is true. the GT-R is almost 5 years since it begun since they showed it, and many do want something new not just the performance but also the Looks, better it they make this baby a v8 and played with turbo just like the v6.

IMO the GT-R don’t deserve the number one sport it should be the M3 GTS Coupe. yes the gt-r is fast and menacing but its already 5 years old. people want something new and different.

great choice.. but my list is 1. Nissan GT-R for muscle car killer, 2. R8 - closes to the GT-R but can’t win over it. 3. Audi RS5 - luxury and elegant with a touch of sportiness. 4. Hyundai genesis - Nimble, performer and also a muscle car killer with a cheaper price.

My list is
1.Ford Shelby GT500
2.Chevrolet Camaro
3.Audi R8 GT
4.Nissan 370Z
